Redskins vs. Dallas, 4th quarter review

1st quarter review

2nd quarter review

3rd quarter review

4th Quarter

Washington Redskins continued.

2-8-WAS 49 (15:00) J.Campbell pass incomplete short right to F.Davis (B.James).

DeMarcus Ware comes untouched and blindsides Jason as he throws. The Cowboys blitzed both OLBs and the line fanned to the right to compensate, so it appears Levi was correct to ignore Ware and block the RDE. If so, that means he was Rock's responsibility, but Rock ignored him and went straight into a flat route.

3-8-WAS 49 (14:57) (Shotgun) J.Campbell pass incomplete short left to A.Randle El [D.Ware].
PENALTY on WAS-J.Campbell, Intentional Grounding, 10 yards, enforced at WAS 49.

The pocket buckles but holds, initially. But Jason loses his composure after his first read isn't open, and starts backpedaling pointlessly. After a few seconds Ware gets past Levi Jones, so Jason ends up launching the ball downfield for an easy grounding call.

4-18-WAS 39 (14:48) H.Smith punts 36 yards to DAL 25, Center-E.Albright. P.Crayton to DAL 27 for 2 yards (C.Wilson).

Dallas Cowboys at 14:42

1-10-DAL 27 (14:42) T.Romo pass short left to F.Jones to DAL 31 for 4 yards (L.Landry).

Carter puts a move on the LT and beats him badly to the outside; the LT recovers just enough to give him a shove upfield so he just barely doesn't get to Romo.

2-6-DAL 31 (13:58) F.Jones left end to DAL 35 for 4 yards (B.Orakpo).

Witten initially puts a very solid block on Orakpo to maintain the corner, but Orakpo manages to shed off and dives to the outside to trip up the RB.

3-2-DAL 35 (13:17) (Shotgun) T.Romo pass short left to J.Witten ran ob at DAL 39 for 4 yards.

1-10-DAL 39 (12:48) T.Romo pass short middle to M.Barber to WAS 48 for 13 yards (C.Wilson).

Romo steps up to avoid pressure from Carter (I think) and flips it to the RB who is wide open over the middle. Blades is playing deep and takes a poor angle, allowing the first down.

1-10-WAS 48 (12:04) F.Jones up the middle to WAS 38 for 10 yards (L.Fletcher, K.Moore).

The RG puts Cornelius Griffin on the ground to open up the hole up the middle.

1-10-WAS 38 (11:19) (Shotgun) F.Jones left end to WAS 34 for 4 yards (L.Landry, F.Smoot).

2-6-WAS 34 (10:39) T.Romo pass incomplete short right to K.Ogletree [L.Landry].

3-6-WAS 34 (10:33) (Shotgun) T.Romo pass short right to T.Choice to WAS 34 for no gain (C.Rogers).
PENALTY on WAS-C.Rogers, Defensive Holding, 5 yards, enforced at WAS 34 - No Play.

Carlos Rogers tracks Choice into the flat and plants a Landry-style hit on him, sending him flying back a couple yards and keeping him on the ground for awhile. Rogers apparently commits the holding earlier in the play against Roy Williams, but this is off camera.

1-10-WAS 29 (10:15) T.Romo pass incomplete short left to M.Bennett [K.Golston].

Golston lines up at LDT, briefly engages with the RG, then loops all the way around Haynesworth and Alexander at RDE to get in the backfield and plant Romo in the dirt.

2-10-WAS 29 (10:09) T.Romo pass short right to M.Austin to WAS 14 for 15 yards (K.Moore, C.Rogers).

Rogers is seven yards off the LOS and LBs are all towards the middle of the field, so Dallas would be crazy not to run a slant and take a free first down.

1-10-WAS 14 (9:24) (Shotgun) T.Romo pass incomplete short left to P.Crayton (D.Hall) [L.Alexander].

Lorenzo Alexander comes from RDE and puts a ridiculous swim move on the LT, then avoids the RB, to get in Romo's face to force a low throw and then plant him again. The WR almost picks the pass out of the grass, but DeAngelo Hall shows great closing speed to come from off camera and drill the guy in the back and knock the ball loose. I'm conflicted about this drive - Dallas did manage to move the ball and came away with a field goal. However, a lot of Cowboys were made to feel a lot of pain, so I consider it a qualified success.

2-10-WAS 14 (9:19) M.Barber right guard to WAS 5 for 9 yards (K.Moore).

The hole is maintained by Witten putting a hat on Fletcher and the FB interfering with Landry's angle.

3-1-WAS 5 (8:34) M.Barber right guard to WAS 5 for no gain (K.Moore).

A DT who I can't identify (it's not Haynesworth or Golston because they're visible elsewhere) and Orakpo at LDE go low to wreck the blocking, then pull themselves back up to stuff the RB.

4-1-WAS 5 (7:49) S.Suisham 23 yard field goal is GOOD, Center-L.Ladouceur, Holder-T.Romo.

DAL 17 WAS 0, 13 plays, 68 yards, 1 penalty, 6:58 drive, 7:16 elapsed

D.Buehler kicks 78 yards from DAL 30 to WAS -8. R.Cartwright, Touchback.

Washington Redskins at 7:44

1-10-WAS 20 (7:44) J.Campbell pass short middle to A.Randle El to WAS 30 for 10 yards (B.James).

1-10-WAS 30 (7:23) J.Campbell pass short right to M.Kelly to WAS 35 for 5 yards (T.Newman).

2-5-WAS 35 (7:00) (Shotgun) J.Campbell pass short middle to A.Randle El to WAS 41 for 6 yards (B.James).

The DB lines up over Randle-El in the slot blitzes, and this time Jason identifies it and punishes Dallas with a quick slant right over his head.

1-10-WAS 41 (6:42) (Shotgun) J.Campbell pass short right to R.Cartwright to WAS 40 for -1 yards (B.Carpenter).

Jason throws too high to Rock in the flat - a LB was closing in any way but if Rock hadn't needed to go up for it he may have at least had a chance to make a move.

2-11-WAS 40 (6:16) (Shotgun) J.Campbell pass incomplete short right to R.Cartwright.

Same as above, but this time Jason somehow manages to throw it about 15 over Rock's head despite not being rushed. After the play Rock throws his hands in the air in bewilderment and dismay, as do I.

3-11-WAS 40 (6:09) (Shotgun) J.Campbell pass incomplete short left to R.Cartwright (K.Brooking).

Ware uses his speed to get to the outside, but Levi does a good job of directing him downfield so Campbell can step up.

4-11-WAS 40 (6:04) H.Smith punts 44 yards to DAL 16, Center-E.Albright, fair catch by P.Crayton.

The offense initially stays on the field, and the telecast happens to be showing a close-up of Jason's face. He is visibly disgusted when he is instructed to make way for the punting unit. He then appears to exchange some tense words with Zorn on the sideline.

Dallas Cowboys at 5:55

1-10-DAL 16 (5:55) M.Barber left tackle to DAL 17 for 1 yard (L.Alexander, K.Golston).

Timeout #1 by WAS at 05:48.

2-9-DAL 17 (5:48) M.Barber left tackle to DAL 29 for 12 yards (L.Alexander).

Griffin achieves easy penetration when the LG in front of him pulls to the outside, but he comes straight upfield and the RB beats him to the outside. A DB (Landry, I think) has the corner but is swallowed up by a very good block by a WR.

1-10-DAL 29 (5:08) M.Barber up the middle to DAL 32 for 3 yards (L.Landry).

Timeout #2 by WAS at 05:02.

2-7-DAL 32 (5:02) M.Barber right guard to DAL 35 for 3 yards (K.Golston).

Haynesworth blows past the LT's inside shoulder, but then bites on a fake end around and the RB is able to make it to the hole in the middle.

Timeout #3 by WAS at 04:57.

3-4-DAL 35 (4:52) (Shotgun) F.Jones left guard to DAL 38 for 3 yards (H.Blades).

Two great plays to stop this shotgun draw - Orakpo initially overpursues upfield but makes an athletic dive to trip up the RB. Meanwhile the C gets to the second level and squares up H.B. Blades, who once again goes head to head against an O-lineman, withstands him physically, and sheds off him to make the stop.

Timeout #1 by DAL at 04:09.

4-1-DAL 38 (4:09) M.McBriar punts 49 yards to WAS 13, Center-L.Ladouceur. S.Moss to WAS 18 for 5 yards.

Washington Redskins at 3:46

1-10-WAS 18 (3:46) (Shotgun) J.Campbell pass short left to S.Moss to WAS 26 for 8 yards (B.James).

At this point Dallas has gone into super-soft coverage mode to kill the game, so don't read too much into the upcoming completions.

2-2-WAS 26 (3:25) (Shotgun) J.Campbell pass short left to S.Moss to WAS 33 for 7 yards (M.Jenkins).

1-10-WAS 33 (3:12) (Shotgun) J.Campbell scrambles up the middle to WAS 39 for 6 yards (B.James).

Ware beats Levi to the inside but Jason evades and finds some running room up the middle.

2-4-WAS 39 (3:00) J.Campbell pass short right to R.Cartwright to WAS 42 for 3 yards (B.James).

3-1-WAS 42 (2:34) R.Cartwright right guard to WAS 46 for 4 yards (B.Carpenter).

Stephon Heyer does a passably good job of keeping his LB to the outside and preserving the running lane.

1-10-WAS 46 (2:11) (Shotgun) J.Campbell pass short middle to R.Cartwright to WAS 49 for 3 yards (K.Brooking).

Campbell takes another hit as Dockery completely whiffs on the RDE.

Two-Minute Warning

2-7-WAS 49 (2:00) (Shotgun) J.Campbell pass short left to S.Moss to DAL 41 for 10 yards (K.Hamlin).

1-10-DAL 41 (1:36) J.Campbell pass incomplete short left to M.Mason.

2-10-DAL 41 (1:36) (Shotgun) J.Campbell pass incomplete short right to A.Randle El (O.Scandrick).

DB comes untouched off the edge and deflects the pass.

3-10-DAL 41 (1:33) (Shotgun) J.Campbell pass short right to F.Davis to DAL 30 for 11 yards (B.Carpenter) [J.Hatcher].

A DT fakes his way past Will Montgomery and is bearing down on Campbell; fortunately Montgomery has the presence to block him in the back and force him to the ground, so Campbell is only hit in the legs and manages to get the ball out. It's pure arm strength that gets the ball to Fred Davis in tight coverage.

1-10-DAL 30 (1:05) J.Campbell pass incomplete short left to S.Moss [A.Spencer].

The OLB runs past Heyer like he isn't even there and takes down Campbell.

2-10-DAL 30 (1:05) (Shotgun) J.Campbell scrambles left end pushed ob at DAL 25 for 5 yards (B.James).

Dallas didn't stick to their soft, conservative defense long, as they send another DB blitz here. Fortunately he leaps anticipating a deflection, which allows Campbell to evade him and find running room to the outside.

3-5-DAL 25 (:57) (Shotgun) J.Campbell sacked at DAL 31 for -6 yards (J.Ratliff).

The DT works around Will Montgomery's outside shoulder, then runs through his failed attempt to commit holding. Campbell is slung around and body-slammed into the ground, as an onlooking blogger weeps softly.

4-11-DAL 31 (:32) (Shotgun) J.Campbell pass incomplete short left to M.Mitchell.

Jason saves himself one final hit as he steps up to escape the edge pressure allowed by both his tackles, but then wisely throws out of bounds to avoid further suffering.

Dallas Cowboys at 0:24

1-10-DAL 32 (:24) T.Romo kneels to DAL 31 for -1 yards. respot on change of possession
